food for the soul

as I finished up proverbs in these past two weeks, I found so many verses that I thought were worthy of note.
these are the ones that I actually took time to write down in my volumeVI.

my son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights 3:11-12

a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man 6:10-11

there are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers 6:16-19

the fear of the Lord is hatred of evil 8:13

like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion 11:22

one gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want 11:24

commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established 16:3

good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense 19:11

rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter 24:11

do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles, lest the Lord see it and be displeased, and turn away his anger from him 24:17-18

do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring. let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips 27:1-2

wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy? 27:4

faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy 27:6

as in water face reflects face, so the heart of a man reflects the man 27:19

if you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth. for pressing milk produces curds, pressing the nose produces blood, and pressing anger produces strife 30:32-33

and one of my favorites of all time:
charm is deceitful, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised 31:30
